How Short is Your Memory?

To leave a voicemail message press #1,
To hear this option again press #9

This corker of a voice menu is to be heard if you phone the Queensland Government's Office of State Revenue.

At my age I take all the help I can get.
I might have to press #9 three or four times before I can understand what the strangely-accented, computer-generated voice said to me for the single menu item at #1.
This is especially so if that one available item bears no sensible relation to the reason for my call.
Oh for the good old days when you twirled a handle on the side of the phone, lifted the earpiece off its cradle and heard the dulcet tones of the lovely Mavis saying, in clear Australian English, "Number please."

What it means is that the Queensland Government's Office of State Revenue are preparing to add items to the menu, thus refreshing the nine circles of hell.
